Overview

Easy, Electric, Eco-Friendly

This model is perfect for mowing lawns up to .25 acre on a single battery charge. If you need more time, just drop in an optional spare battery. According a study conducted by the Noise Pollution Clearinghouse, the Neuton CE5 is the quietest rotary mower available. So no more worrying about disturbing the neighbors! And its lightweight design--less than half the weight of comparable gas-powered models--ensures easy maneuverability by almost any user. Folds up for easy storage.

Your Neuton CE5 Mower comes with everything you need to start mowing:

  • Rear grass collection bag
  • Mulching plug
  • 240 watt-hour battery
  • Battery charger

Neuton mowers have attachments and accessories like no other mowers! Our TRIMMER/EDGER Attachment turns your mower into a three-in-one lawn maintenance wizard and is included with the CE5 Premier Accessories Package.

Cutting Blade

At a blade tip speed of nearly 16,000 ft/minute, this uniquely designed blade creates extra air lift to make grass stand up straight--for a cleaner, more even cut. The cutting chamber has also been redesigned for improved air-flow, resulting in better mulching and discharge of clippings. Cutting width: 14"

Good Mower
Posted by: Michelle L from Rockville, MD on 07/28/2015
Rating:
The mower works well, cuts through long and wet grass if needed. Doesn't cover a wide area, but that's what you get with a compact mower. Only complaint: The initial battery that came with the machine doesn't even last long enough to do our whole back yard (25yds by 25yds) but we bought a second one and it does both the front and the back yard so we must have just gotten a faulty battery.

Nice for trimming
Posted by: Louis L. from Georgetown, IN on 07/15/2015

I have one of the older DR battery mowers my brother had, but it has worn out, maybe a loose wire however the battery is not up to par anymore. I bought this Neuton for a replacement, seems tight, but the battery holds it's own so I am assuming it is natural. It is light and easy to maneuver for an elderly person trimming and would probably be substantial for a whole small lot or lawn.

This little mower is fantastic. It is easy to handle and the quick on and off operation is ideal in a neighborhood where a lot of people walk by. It's the perfect mower for a small yard. The best part is not having to mess with smelly gasoline.

I really like the design. It's quiet. It's lightweight, making a small hill easy to mow. The bag is easy to unload. The only initial problem was the instructions did not make clear that you need to hold down the start button and the safety handle at the same tome to start the mower.

This is our second Neuton. We had a CE4 which had served us well for over ten years . This year when it wouldn't start, we decided we were ready for a new and slightly larger mower so we moved up to the CE5 which shows every sign of being just as good and reliable as its older brother. Thanks Neuton for a mower that starts!

This is actually my second Newton CE5 and I think this new mower is sturdier and better than the first. My first CE5 is still in regular use at a rental property 6+ years later. I have recommended this mower to everyone I know. Quiet, clean, cuts great, light weight, easy to use. What more could you ask for in a mower!

New User
Posted by: Gary D. from Bainbridge, NY on 05/27/2015

The convenience of instant start is much greater than I had anticipated. The only negative aspect that I have found is that the wheel raising and lowering handle "grabs" plants when I mow too close to bushes and flowers. If it could be reversed so the open area faces the rear of the mower the problem would probably be resolved.

My husband purchased one in 2009 and we absolutely love it! It is used to cut the grass at the cabin. So when we needed a mower at the house, we ordered another one! SO now we have 2 batteries (for the few times in the Spring that its needed). And since this one is perfect, and has been trouble free, why take the chance on the others that are coming out in stores near you? Why would we get an unknown when we are used to the best?

This is my second CE5 and was a step back from the previous CE5. The new system for raising and lowering the platform is cute, but the lever handle easily dislodges from the slots after hitting a bump, dropping the platform to floor stalling the mower, cutting grass too low. The new handle system is flimsy and the battery didn't seem as powerful. I think the problem with platform can be solved easily be making the slots deeper and more resistant to rounding off. I didn't see any other reviews complaining of this problem, which is surprising, so maybe it was only my mower. Of course, I love the electric mower for all the reasons other reviewers mentioned.

I'm very pleased with the performance of the mower, and especially pleased with the ease of starting and stopping. My only concern is that the manual I received is incorrect in its explanation of charging the battery. I called your technical department on Saturday and was given helpful advice by Tim. I was also impressed at how quickly the mower was delivered.
Response from Neuton SupportThank you for your feedback on the Neuton Mower. We apologize that there was a mix up in information relating to the charging of the battery. So happy that Tim was able to help you out and that you will now be on your way to mowing with a quiet clean running lawn mower. We appreciate your business and thank you for choosing Neuton Power. EM 5.1 Over 10 years and counting

This is the closest thing to the model I bought over 10 years ago. I have never missed spilling gas, smelling exhaust, adding oil, lifting a heavy lawnmower to change oil, to wash the underside. On top of that, I still mulch leaves under the trees and cut thick and sometimes tall grass. Neuton makes a great machine and I have bought other of their products. If you want a clean, easy, quiet mowing and cleaning up experience, I recommend Neuton.

Found my CE5.2 at the Goodwill store and snapped it up for $70. Had to order a charger and safety key and sprang for blade sharpener. Spared no expense. First day mowed front lawn, abt 2400 sq ft. Next day mowed a bit of the side yard where dry grass was about 10 inches. Skipped 2 days, then mowed rest of the side yard, abt 500 sq ft. Today mowed about 200 sq ft of front field. Still on the same charge and I'm out of grass. Also, it cuts down small mesquite trees you usually need a hatchet to cut. Love this mower.

The new mower is a nice size for me. I had a 17" neuton battery mower, which I liked. This mower is more noisy and the part to install for mulching is harder to install. I like the idea of showing how much the battery charge is left. The battery is easy to install. For me the smaller one is easier to handle in the way of lifting. It seems a little harder to push. Takes getting adjusted to a new item.

We bought this a month ago and used the Neuton twice in that time. The battery charged well and lasted during the use of the mower (around .2 acres). It's quiet, light weight, and easy to maneuver. Although we wish the blade was a bit longer, it didn't take that much more time to mow with the shorter blade due to the ease of use in turning corners. Now, it's time to teach our son to mow! :)

Easy-to-Use Mower, No Gas Required!
Posted by: Easyproductsuser1 from on 07/21/2013
Rating:
This is a very convenient mower to use. It's easy just to drop a new, fully-charged battery into the mower if another one is not charged up (we have three batteries). Our property fairly small--although not super-small--so there is still a lot of battery power left even when we are done mowing. But this mower is well-capable of tackling even larger properties. Two or three batteries could easily take on a larger property. Even one battery could easily mow a lawn moderately larger than ours! It's nice to not deal with gasoline and mower exhaust. It's also nice to not have a cord to yank on to start the mower. This mower is as maintenance-free and easy to use as it gets! All you really have to do is keep it clean, especially the underside. But that's just common sense.

Have owned the original (still running) for more than 10 years. It is lighter than the newer version, although the new version seems to have more power. Also louder than original. Bagger on this version is harder to remove. Cord from on/off switch to cutting unit gets in the way. Battery charging must double-check that light on battery and charger are both lit.

The grass bunches up and doesn't go into the bag very well. Mainly, it seems hard for me to push around the yard. I am used to a self-propelled mower and will return this one so I can buy one that is self-propelled. I checked with your staff on line before I ordered your mower and they assured me that I can return it easily.

My great green mean mowing machine

This is my second Neuton. It's even greater than the first. I truly love the power, quietness, ease of movability and the cutting clean of those green blades of grass. I embrace all features, the ease of charging the batteries and placing within the machine carriage, the newly featured power charge dial and easy assembly. I'm impressed also by how fast the mower came from DR Power Equipment. A-One service with a gaurantee.

Great mower, but handle mount is the one weak point in the product.
Posted by: GKKJP from New Jersey on 07/04/2013

We love our Neuton. It is our second one which we bought so we could give our first one to our daughter. The improvement in the battery charger with the green light coming on to indicate a full charge is a great improvement.! The only thing we don't like about the mower is the handle. We find that the handle gets loose as time goes on and wobbles. No amount of tightening on the mounting screws helps. We would like to see the handle mounting strengthened to prevent the mower vibrations from loosening it.

I have been wanting to buy this mower for several years. Easy start, Easy to push. I have put it through a workout with mowing thick weeds and it leaves a clean cut behind. I have read other reviews where the battery life is not that great. I have had no problems, the key is following the directions and recharging and storing as the owners manual recommends. Great for small lawns. I hope to order the trimmer attachment when it becomes available.

We bought a Neuton mower about 5 years ago. My wife likes it so much we just bought a new one and gave the old one to our daughter. We have also purchased a weed wacker and leaf blower which are also battery powered. I am going to purchase a battery powered DR hedge trimmer as soon as I finish this review. I think that Neuton battery powered lawn mowers are better than others which have come out over the last 2-3 years. I like all of the battery powered neuton lawn and garden equipment

Good but not very powerful

It is easy to assemble. I charge the battery overnight, the light at the battery turn off, but the light at the charger remain red, the menu says it should turn green, but it does not. The first time I cut the grass, it lasts only 10 minutes, it is because the grass is high and dense, and I set the machine very low. The second time I set the machine higher and I cut the lawn in half hour. Overall it is a good machine but not very powerful. If you have a small lawn and the grass is not high and dense, I would recommend it.

comparisons
Posted by: larry2114 from Connecticut on 07/03/2013
Rating:
I have the luxury of comparing a version 5.1 to a new 5.4 mower. These the major differences. The wire for the control cable is thicker the newer model has a butterfly blade stopper , whereas the older version had the bar. Gone is the switch that permits you to go to weedeater to mower, and allowed you to leave the weedeater in the mower as you were mowing, the new version will not permit that, you either have the weedeater in or you have it out. The circuit is in whether you have the weedeater in place for not. The newer model has circuit breaker in the handle, whereas the old unit. It was removable and on the deck itself. The grass height adjusters are still easy to get to. The battery compartment is still easy to get into. The battery cover latch has been made sturdier than its redesign. The bags, discharge chute have backward compatibility. There is a visual display for battery discharge on the new model.

It is quiet and has no maintenance, other than battery replacement. It is light weight, so I have no problem pushing the mower. I love it!

Perfect size for tight quarters
Posted by: Tirsdad from Iowa on 07/03/2013
Rating:
I purchased the Neuton CE5 partly because of a desire to use less gasoline and partly because the narrow width is perfect for the tight spaces in my garden greenspace. The power is great; the battery life adequate, and the simplicity is wonderful. Two minor critiques: I wish the blade height adjustment lever were not quite so readily caught by fencing materials, etc., accidentally "readjusting" the height. Also, the twin plastic hand paddles seem a little flimsy, but so far they haven't broken or detached. It is a wonderfully useful mower.

My second Neuton, and I love it just as much as the first

I would recommend this to anyone. The handle seems much better on this one (my first one had the handle break off, which I gather is not uncommon). This one seems like a better design. Unfortunately, the rear flap (part number 210461) is held on by screws, and those screws on one side came out after just a few mows. Neuton kindly sent me a replacement flap but the screws they sent were too small. I've asked them to send the correct screws, and I'm sure we'll get it figured out shortly. Overall, I love this mower.

I just purchased the Neutron Mower to replace the old Dr. Whisper Lite that I got in the 1990's. The old mower would have lasted longer and just needed a new battery but I decided to go with the new one. I love how easy it is to use and how quiet it is. I chose the first mower after moving into my first house. I told my husband I would mow if it wasn't gas powered and he found this one. So easy to use. Quiet enough to mow while the babies were napping. I have been asked by so many people what kind of mower is that. One of my neighbors and friends even bought one. I think it is perfect.

Exactly what we wanted.

We have a small yard and have always used a gas powered push mower. When it became time to buy a new mover we wanted something light weight (we aren't getting any younger), reasonably priced, easy to store (we have no garage) and eco-friendly (bonus)if possible. The Neuton CE5.4 fits the bill. The fact that it's quiet and we will NEVER run out of gas again is just frosting on the cake. We can mow our lawn 2 times on one charge. The battery is very light weight, removes easily and charges in no time. Rated quality as good since we have only owned it 2 months and the plastic part does make us a little nervous in terms of long lasting. We could have gotten a similar gas mower $100 cheaper but figure we are saving on gasoline and helping the environment at the same time. All in all we are very pleased with our new Neuton.

Customer service is great to deal with. I only wish the battery lasted longer--it was more feasible to replace my 5-year-old machine than to purchase a new battery. This time I sprang for the 3-year extended warranty, meaning this machine will give me trouble-free performance for 5 years...and hopefully beyond.

Good product but the battery was dead when received

I bought this for my sister. I purchased the higher-end model for myself 3 years ago. Overall, this mower is easy for my sister to use and functional for her needs, but it is definitely a "lower end" model than the one I purchased for myself (which I would rate higher on all points). You get what you pay for, and this mower is certainly acceptable and good value for the lower price. I would recommend either this mower or the higher cost one that I purchased for myself. The only issue we had with the purchase of this mower is the battery was essentially dead when received. It only charges enough to do about 10 minutes of mowing, regardless of how long it's left on the charger. Neuton customer service was very helpful; they agreed to send a replacement battery. However, they should've sent the battery "express mail" - my sister's lawn will be a jungle by the time she receives it!

I've always enjoyed keeping the yard in shape with my Neuton electric mowers. My first machine - a CE4 - gave me great and friendly service for many years. I've now added the CE5.4 to my yard tool collection. It's always fun when friends catch me in the act of mowing my lawn - and wonder how come it's so quiet. I let them take the Neuton for a spin around the yard. They always come away impressed at the ease and quiet of the machine. It's true: You can listen to the birds sing while mowing the grass! I appreciate the light weight of the Neuton Mower. Somebody gave me a great old gas-powered lawn mower - very high end expensive machine. But I never use it: Too loud and too heavy. Plus too hard to start - unlike the Neuton that starts right up every time for me. The Neuton rolls easily. I don't mind the little push I give it - as yard work is my "gym" and I enjoy keeping me in shape while keeping the yard in shape.

A nice, quiet little mower which really chomps down on the grass. However, the cutting path is very narrow and while it is fairly light weight, self-propelled would have been a better idea. Most of the time the charge will last for 55 minutes, just enough to do both my front and back lawn, but on occasion, it decides to quit at about 45 - leaving a portion of the back yard uncut!

This is my second CE5. My older daughter needed a mower for her small yard in St Louis, so I gave her the one I had, which I had purchased in Texas for a small yard I had there. We have a small yard in Ohio, so the Neuton was the perfect mower for what I needed for the side yard and back yard. I have a B&D 36 V for the front boulevard and everything on the outside fence. The performance of my Neuton has pleased my daughter since it is so easy to use, no gas, no oil, no spank plug, no rope to pull, etc she loves it. My wife will mow the inside yards because the Neuton is easy to use, it's light, but it's very effective. The only gripe I have is that the handle connecting to the mower isn't as strong as I would like.. it seems not too strong at times. However, it does its job.

Actually, I could have kept using it longer, but decided to try the new model instead of changing the battery and blade for the first time after 8 years.

Start with the touch of a button every time. Both of my neighbors have gasoine riding mowers. They can mow their lawns much faster, once it gets going. But they spend so much time getting them tuned up and trying to start them that I still do mine faster and cheaper and quieter (can even mow early Sunday morning).

Like with anything else you have your pros and cons. Here's just a short list of each: Pro's: 1. Very light weight. 2. No gas necessary (goes without saying since battery powered). 3. The 5.4 is small enough to fit into tight spaces or between obstacles we all have in our yards. 4. The battery charger has a nice little feature that stops charging once the battery has reached it's capacity charge; although, the indicator light stays lit even after charging stops. So for you ghost electrical watchers, this may eat at you a little even if just a minute charge is used. 5. The grip handles are comfortable to hold. And, it's nice that you can free up one hand and still keep the engine running. 6. It's quiet. I can actually carry on a conversation while still mowing. 7. The push button start makes a hard-to-start job a little easier than having to keep pulling at a rope like on some of the gas powered ones. Cons: 1. Size works both for you and (kind-of) against you. While you can maneuver easily, you also have to make more ups and downs to finish your yard. 2. For you guys that let your yard go a little longer than you should (like I do) and the grass gets a little high, the battery and engine may struggle to get through some of that thick grass (especially if kept at a low height). 3. It almost looks like a toy from far away. 4. Because of the nice ability to attach a string trimmer to the front of the mower, you also can't get right up to a wall or fence line when approaching it head on. You'll have to cut parallel to the wall or fence to get closer. 5. On the same subject as Number 4, if you're used to the cutting blade being just wider than your wheel base, you'll leave a line of grass standing up. It becomes a matter of almost lining up a cut line of grass to the middle of the mower in order to get a good cut. 6. My rear plastic deflector came off pretty quickly. although I screwed it back in, it only came right back off. Not a big deal though, just kept on cutting. 7. Although the height adjustment is easy to raise and lower, that also makes it real easy for something to nudge the lever out of place forcing you to have to re-adjust the height. 8. You'll probably benefit from having a second battery on hand for when the first battery gives out. Although there might be a few other pros and cons, these were the ones that made the list that stood out. Thanks.

I love this mower. It is lightweight, but it does a super job. Other mowers were too heavy for me. This one I can use with ease.

I was looking to find a electric lawn mower machine that i can carry to and fro different properties i own. This machine is so easy to lift, and very good grass cutting! Yet i do not recommend it since when it comes to price, at the bottom line, you end up spending so much (about $500) to do so little. on an average grass hight, the battery function only for 15mins at a time. then it needs to be charged for 12 hours. It really needs three batteries in order to finish less then 1/4 of an acer. and of course not to forget that if it is a rainy day, the machine is out of commission.... that is too much money for to little of a job!
Response from Neuton SupportThank you for posting a review to our website . We are sorry to learn you are not fully satisfied with the purchase of your Neuton Mower. You should be getting 45-60 minutes of runtime on a full charge. If you have multiple batteries with only 15 minutes of runtime, the charger may be bad? Please check the voltage output of the charger. It should read 28-30 volts DC. Anything less will not fully charge the battery. Please let us know the results.

I've been wrestling with an electric mower for years. I'm a senior woman living alone and have a very small yard, and when I finally finished mowing I was so very tired! With this mower I don't have to constantly bend over and toss the cord out of the way. I can do the entire yard on one charge and even with the battery it's not too heavy for me to manage. It's also so quiet I can mow early in the morning before it gets too hot. And on top of all that....it's cute! Highly recommend.

I bought my first Neuton in 1999 and it is still going strong. This one was a housewarming gift for my brother who absolutely loves it. He told me he never enjoyed mowing before he started using his new Neuton.

I love my Neuton mower. This is my 3rd Neuton in about 12 years, and my 2nd purchased new. My first only gave out when I mowed over twine that got caught in the mower. My 2nd I bought used with a broken handle and was still able to get two years of use before deciding to buy a new one again. I love these mowers. Everyone comments on how quiet they are. It's crazy that everyone doesn't mow with these electric mowers. Spread the word!

I appreciate the excellent customer service representatives and their prompt attention after I reported I was having battery problems with my new mower. They shipped new battery and charger so I'm now up and running again with my wonderful Neuton. (I love hearing the bird sounds in background while waiting for my cll to be answered.)

I had an older neuton mower which was great. But I upgraded and this one is better. I has a gauge that show how much battery power is left in the battery. Very helpful. I certainly recommend this mower.

As a female, I didn't want a heavy mower and the Neuton mower perfectly fits the bill. It is so easy to use and I love that it's battery operated and doesn't need gas, oil, etc. It's also quieter than the average mower which is a bonus. Definitely recommend!

Looking for a way to simply do your lawn, I get mine done in 15 minutes and that is opening the garage to finishing. It collects all lawn waste, the sound is very low, so it doesn't bother neighbors (doing lawn at any hours of the day), overall the 10 years, I've only had to replace the battery once, so the cost is much lower maintenance than gas powered. It is safe to use. I highly reccomend it.

i have been using my mower at the campground that we stay at for the last 7 years and it just works great . it takes me about 45 minutes to cut mine and my neighbors lawn and it handles both lawns on one charge . i did not think much of it when i ordered it because i did not think it would work well but i am more that satisfied now that i have it . i love that when you let the handle go it automatically shuts the mower off .could not have made a better investment . and you should see the people that stop and ask about it .
